What We Have Created

The Mad River Valley Dog Park is a fully accessible, fenced-in play area located behind Brooks Field in Warren, next to the Eaton Forest Mad River Path Storywalk.

Our Mission

The Mad River Valley Dog Park is a public-private partnership with the mission of creating a safe and stimulating off-leash play environment for dogs as well as a gathering place for their people.  The park is on a beautiful 1.5 acre parcel behind the Brooks Field recreation complex owned by the Town of Warren, Vermont. The Mad River Valley Dog Park Committee reports to the Town of Warren Selectboard.

As the Mad River Valley has historically been known as a dog friendly area, the park creates a welcoming space for dogs as well as a “hub” for dog-related activities.

History

A dog park was highly requested in the 2022 Mad River Valley Community Wellbeing Survey and was suggested as a strategy to reduce dog waste and undesirable off-leash behaviors on trails.

Most dog owners surveyed said they would use a dog park if one existed in the Mad River Valley.  The closest dog parks are a 45-minute drive from Warren. So… we got to work!

The benefits of a dog park:

  • Provides a place for dogs to expel energy safely, reducing barking and other behavior problems.

  • Provides seniors and disabled dog owners an accessible place to exercise their companions.

  • Promotes public health and safety by creating a dedicated place where dogs can run free.

  • Acts as a tourism draw: people will travel to visit our dog park, bringing their dogs and dollars with them.

  • Helps build the positive aspects of our dog friendly culture while reducing the roaming and dog waste that sometimes comes with it.

  • Builds community by providing an opportunity to socialize with other dog owners.
